Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht
Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht (Silent Night, Holy Night) was first composed in 1818 by Franz Gruber to lyrics written by Joseph Mohr. This occurred in the small Austrian village of Oberndorf.
Each Advent Season in December, The Silent Night Festival celebrates the anniversary the first performance of the world's most beloved carol.
Choirs and instrumental ensembles from across the United States and Europe are invited Austria and Germany to help commemorate this historic occasion. The program includes Christmastime performances throughout the Bavarian region, including a performance in Oberndorf, on same grounds where Silent Night was first performed over 200 years ago.
